True Hero

Sadly our job is not only success and glory but sometimes accidents do occur and people do get injured or die.

One example of a true local hero from Worcester Mass on December 8th 2011 was that of Jon Davies. He lost his life fighting a fire on Arlington St. He was sidelined for a long period of time with a shoulder injury and had just got back on the job two months prior when the call that took his life came in. Him and his partner rushed into the triple decker building trying to save a tenant that was trapped inside. The fire became to unstable to fight from the inside so they moved their actions outdoors. That is when a tenant informed the firefighters that his friend was still inside . As Jon Davies and his partner entered the building the conditions became very unstable and the building began to collapse. Injurying one and killing Firefighter Jon Davies. His body was recovered and rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Firemans Prayer

When I’m called to duty God
wherever flames may rage
give me strength to save a life
whatever be its age

Help me to embrace a little child
before it is too late
or save an older person from
the horror of that fate

Enable me to be alert
to hear the weakest shout
and quickly and efficiently
to put the fire out

I want to fill my calling and
to give the best in me
to guard my neighbor and
protect his property

And if according to your will
I have to lose my life
bless with your protecting hand
my children and my wife

Please take a minute to watch this video. Observe the excitement and panic in the voices of the firefighters. But also view the calmness in the chiefs voices. We are trained to remain calm and do what we can in stressful situations.
